Bench Test
This self-assessment has been designed to help you gauge your ability to successfully complete the INBDE.
What can you do with INBDE: The INBDE is accepted in all U.S. states and territories as fulfilling all or part of the written examination requirements for licensure. Passing INBDE allows candidates to apply for advanced standing programs, residency programs , and AEGD programs.
Who can start preparation: ALL candidates graduated from non-CODA-accredited dental programs must have their educational degree confirmed through Educational Credential Evaluators Inc. (ECE). ECE prepares reports providing confirmation of candidate educational degrees earned in other countries.

When can you start: Dental students currently enrolled in their 3rd or 4th of BDS/interns/MDS candidates can start the preparation for INBDE.
INBDE is conducted year round in registered prometric centers across USA and Canada.
The INBDE scores are valid for 3 years from the exam date.
Exam pattern: INBDE is an integrated 2-day exam which tests candidates on 10 foundation knowledge areas with 500 mcq questions.
Day 1 four sections with 360 questions total time:8hr15min
Day2 two sections with 140 questions total time:4hrs15min

Candidates are eligible to appear up to 5 attempts for the examination and must wait for a minimum of 90 days between each unsuccessful test attempt and post their third failed attempt; candidates must wait for at least one year before reappearing for the test.
What do you need other than passing INBDE:
Along with INBDE passing, candidates should take the TOEFL exam with a minimum score of 100 out of 120.
Some universities are preferring ADAT along with INBDE.Advanced Dental Admission Test (ADAT)
Most US and Canadian dental schools require that you demonstrate your English language proficiency by taking the TOEFL. TOEFL Scores.
CAAPID application cycle is available year round typically from may to february.
Preceptorship/Shadowing/VISA: Gaining United states clinical experience from a licenced United States dental practitioner can be valuable.
A valid visa is required for attending the INBDE exam as well as for the preceptorship/shadowing.
Interview and Bench test: After submitting the complete application to ADEA CAAPID selected candidates are invited to university for bench test and MMI.
BENCH TEST:
Once you receive an invite, you know the school likes you on paper. What determines whether you will receive the admission letter is your interview and bench exam.
A bench test is a skills evaluation exam to assess your pre-clinical dental knowledge. It is a timed test consisting of several exercises (differs for every school).

Commonly asked exercises include:
- Class II amalgam prep on a lower first molar
- FM and FGC prep on upper and lower first molar
- PFM prep on upper anterior
The grading criteria for the preps include many parameters like dimensions, taper, outline form, preservation of proximal contacts etc.
Some schools ask for specific preps like:
- Amalgam restoration on a prepped tooth
- Composite build up on incisor, molar
- Wax carving on molar
- Provisional restorations with composites.
Some schools might ask preps specific to a specialization which include:
- RPD Designing
- Endo Access opening on any teeth
- Gold onlay prep on a molar

Financing options for your ASPID:
Other alternate options: Candidates can also apply for AEGD/GPR or other residency programs directly except oral and maxillofacial surgery. Candidates must submit their applications via PASS portal. These programs are highly competitive and international students compete with domestic students for these programs.
International candidates do not receive any stipend during their residency program.
